The September Riddle

I am sorry but to many factors beyond my control in the economy, the reward for being the first to solve this riddle will have the esteem privilege and honor of being Number 1 with all the accolades of family and friends but with no $1 in your pocket.
. . . . . . . .
With that qualifier here is the riddle, or the mind bender, thought crasher and maybe even 'I can't believe I did not get it' riddle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
. . . . . . . .
This is a biker riddle! While riding down the rode on your 21 speed cross-country bike enjoying the beauty of a fall day, the beautiful countryside as it sparkles from the rays of sunshine, the blowing of the trees and the toggling of the rainbow of leaves from the gentle breezes, your eyes in a brief moment see flashes of two things. You pause in your peddling for a minute and see another one. In the next several seconds you never see the re-occurrence of this thing. After thoroughly enjoying the view you continue with your fall day ride while pondering the question;
"What is it about nature that allows us to see and appreciate and then again not see?"

. . . . . . . .
Good Luck

I'm thinking that it's when it rains skittles. We can see it...but then we eat them and can not see them anymore. Thank you nature, thank you for my skittles.
